Each week, ESPN.com.au AFL draft expert Christopher Doerre - aka Knightmare - casts his eye over the countrys best junior footballers to give readers an early insight into the next generation of AFL stars.As well as attending live games, Doerre pores through match vision, analyses the stats and talks to industry sources to ensure he can offer the most insightful draft analysis.Aside from the weekly wrap, Doerre will also unveil his power rankings at the end of each month.And as we get closer to Novembers national draft, Doerre will also predict who goes where with his annual phantom draft.Player focus Performing strongly through the Under-18 Championships for Vic Metro, Jack Scrimshaw was productive and impactful in his first TAC Cup game of the season for Sandringham Dragons.Scrimshaw at 193cm, 80kg plays his best football off a half-back flank. In Sandringhams 26-point win over Gippsland, he had 27 disposals, 15 contested possessions, nine marks (three contested), four tackles and seven rebound 50s.What was impressive with Scrimshaw was his ability to read the flight of the ball off an opponents boot, getting to the drop of the ball and take intercept marks in the back half. Most eye-catching was an athletic aerial mark at the back of the pack he took strongly overhead.As well as taking intercept marks, he also proved effective at ground level - he was clean picking up ground balls and delivered well by hand.The most attention-grabbing play from Scrimshaw was after a groundball pickup, when he proceeded to take on one opponent with ball in hand with his run and an evasive step, then took on a second player with another evasive step on the move. He continued running but unfortunately before disposing of the ball was called for running too far without bouncing.By foot Scrimshaw in the most part proved effective, with his long left-foot kicks delivered with a pleasing style, though he will be ruing some uncharacteristic skill errors.Analysis Scrimshaw is firmly in the first-round mix for this years national draft, with his damaging kicking, intercept marking, evasiveness, height and production by position making him arguably the most appealing general backman in this years draft class.Scrimshaw should look to gain further strength in one-on-one contests. This will allow him to hold his own against stronger opponents and take more contested marks, which with his ability to read the flight, is an element of his game that can grow further and translate well to AFL level.He could also look to take the game on more with his run and carry, as with the ease with which he sidesteps players, has the scope to have more of an impact with his run.Victorian prospect watch TAC CupBrodie Romensky of the Western Jets, a 189cm midfielder, was one of the players of the week. His 36 disposals, 24 contested possessions, seven tackles, 12 clearances, one goal and one score assist was outstanding on a losing team in a game where he at no stage dropped his head.?Western team-mate and bottom-ager Cameron Rayner also contributed well through the midfield with 28 disposals, 16 contested possessions, five tackles, eight clearances, five rebound 50s, three behinds and one score assist.
