CLEMSON, S.C. -- He doesnt flash that easygoing smile as frequently. His play gets scrutinized and picked apart more, because many of the folks who gushed about Deshaun Watsons game a season ago now focus on the overthrows and critical interceptions.Still, Clemsons junior quarterback is back in the same spot -- a Heisman Trophy finalist. The journey this time has not been as smooth. He apologized in September after two closer-than-expected wins for not bringing the same joy into his game as he had the first two years. Hes led prime-time, fourth-quarter comebacks against No. 16 Louisville and No. 12 Florida State and thrown three interceptions that helped Pitt pull off a stunning upset, a 43-42 victory that was Clemsons first home loss since Watson was in high school.Watson believes he is in part tagged with matching the success he had in 2015 when he became the first player in the Football Bowl Subdivision to throw for 4,000 yards and rush for 1,000. He capped it with a virtuoso performance against Alabama in the national title game, accounting for four touchdowns and 478 yards in a 45-40 loss. Its easy for people to say that Im not having the type of season I had last year, because to be honest, a lot of people didnt really know me until the end of the season, Watson said. So theyre just living off the national championship game, and all the success I had in that.Once last season ended, Watson was elevated to the face of college football, a favorite for the Heisman who would command a deep, talented Tigers attack that had potential to be the best in the game. When that did not happen immediately, Watson became ripe for criticism, no matter how much success he and his teammates had.Personally, I dont really care about anybody elses opinions and expectations. I understand what Im doing, and my teammates do, too, he said.Watson has dealt with more difficult things in life. His mother, Deann , was diagnosed with cancer of the tongue while he was at Gainesville (Georgia) High. Deann Watson spent six months in the hospital after her glossectomy, an operation to remove her tongue that takes breast tissue to rebuild the tongue.Watsons mother was declared cancer-free in 2012, although she needs to use a feeding tube for the rest of her life. Its something I kind of grew up on, especially coming from the environment I grew up in and the situation with my mom, Watson said. Its a blessing to be able to play the game of football, because one step later it can easily be taken away from me.Watsons numbers this season belie the eye test. Hes thrown for 3,626 yards and 34 TDs, up from 3,223 and 27 touchdowns during the regular season in 2015. His rushing numbers have dropped, but so have Watsons carries. He was most effective running in the postseason, getting 68 carries and 349 yards in the ACC title game and the teams two College Football Playoff games last season.Hes the best player in college football, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said. I mean, just that simple. He has done a fantastic job leading this football team.---BEST GAME: Watsons best may have come in an early-season, 42-36 showdown win over Louisville and Heisman Trophy front-runner Lamar Jackson. Watson helped the Tigers to a 28-10 halftime lead, then dug down in the fourth quarter after Jackson had rallied the Cardinals to a 36-28 edge. Watson threw a 20-yard TD pass to Mike Williams to begin the rally with 7:05 to go and directed an 85-yard drive he finished with a 31-yard scoring pass to Jordan Leggett. Watson ended the night with 306 yards and five touchdown passes.WORST GAME: It seems crazy to label an ACC-record-setting performance as Watsons worst game, but his 580 yards passing against Pitt were offset by three interceptions -- and the last two led to Panthers touchdowns in their 43-42 victory at Death Valley last month. The final pick at the Pitt goal line with Clemson driving for a potential clinching score sprung Pitt linebacker Saleem Brightwell for a 70-yard return that led to a crucial TD. Watson has 15 interceptions in 13 games this season after throwing 15 in 23 games his first two seasons.PRO PROSPECTS: Watson will be one of the first quarterbacks taken in next springs NFL draft, but he might have to rebuild his stock some to show he is a top-of-the-first-round player. Clemsons last ACC player of the year quarterback, Tajh Boyd, saw his stock go from early-round prospect to a sixth-round pick in the 2014 draft.---More AP college football: www.collegefootball.ap.org and https://twitter.com/AP-Top2524 Oz Standard Mouth Hydro Flask . -- Arizona raced out to a big lead and did not back off, hitting the accelerator instead. He was drafted in the first round in 2007 by the Buffalo Bills before joining the Seattle Seahawks in 2010, where he won his only Super Bowl ring two years ago.Sky Sports remembers our favourite moments from Lynchs career... Marshawn Lynch: Career stats via NFL.com Rushing TDs: 74 Receiving TDs: 9 Rushing yards: 9,112 Receiving yards: 1,979 Rushing fumbles: 19 Receiving fumbles: 7 Beast Quake Lynch #24 rampages through the Saints defence Possibly the play that will come to define Lynchs argument that he should be included in the NFL Hall of Fame. Five years ago, an outrageous display of athleticism and brute strength from Lynch sent Seattle into such raptures that the wobbling CenturyLink Field registered on a local seismograph. The Seahawks were playing defending Super Bowl champions New Orleans Saints in the Wild Card play-offs and were locked in a nip-and-tuck battle that could have ended either sides season. In the fourth quarter, Lynch settled proceedings by skipping past nine tackles and scoring a remarkable 67-yard touchdown. The Seahawks had called 17 Power, a power run, for the first time and shifted the ball into Lynchs hands. He bolted past Scott Shanle, Sedrick Ellis and Will Smith within the blink of an eye. Saints Remi Ayodele and Darren Sharper simultaneously dived at Lynch only to grasp nothing but thin air. After fighting off Jabari Greer, Lynch performed the most memorable feat of strength as he stiff-armed Tracy Porter out of his path before crossing into the end zone for one of his greatest touchdowns. It helped Seahawks win 41-36 and the 66,000 capacity 12th Man shook Seattle to its core.Beast Quake 2.0 Lynch #24 leaves the Cardinals trailing in his wake Lynchs career-best 79-yard touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals in late 2014 may not have taken him past nine opponents like the original Beast Quake but it will, we now know, remain his longest ever score. And if you ever doubted the nickname, remember Lynch began this game against the Cardinals on the bench due to sickness and didnt touch the ball until moments before half-time.But in the fourth quarter he burst into life by shoving red jerseys out of the way with immense arm strength and, at one point, a nudge of the helmet like a charging bull. He wrecked Rashad Johnson and Patrick Petersons initial attempt to bring him down and, just as he did in the first Beast Quake, leaped triumphantly into the end zone. Seattle won 35-6 and went top of the NFC West en route to the Super Bowl.Afterwards when questioned about his swashbuckling score he merely replied thanks for asking as his reply to every query, with his recent fines for blanking the media fresh in his mind. A sign of things to come?Im just here so I dont get fined Watch Marshawn Lynch tell reporters Im just here so I dont get fined. Video courtesy of Sound FX. No stranger in the past to incurring monetary penalties for a lack of co-operation with the NFL off-the-field, Lynch still had no intention of providing genuine answers to reporters prior to last years Super Bowl. Inadvertently (or maybe brilliantly) he created a sensation which took social media by storm and turned into a line of profitable merchandise. Lynch explains to reporters why he wont answer questions Lynch had been fined for not fulfilling media duties not long before the Super Bowl in February 2015 against the New England Patriots but became the sensation of the pre-game shenanigans for his brash attitude towards reporters.dddddddddddd. Contractually obliged to face questions for a minimum of three minutes, Lynch politely informed reporters he would not stay for a single second too long - and set a reminder on his phone which triggered his exit.During those three minutes, Lynch repeated Im just here so I wont get fined 29 times. He has since received an official trademark for the phrase and released a series of T-shirts. Why not give it to Beast Mode? Lynch talks about not being given the crucial pass in the Seahawks Super Bowl defeat The Seahawks fell short of winning back-to-back Super Bowls by a mere yard last year, in a game that will always be remembered for their decision to not utilise Lynch at the pivotal moment. He will never get another chance to add to his single Super Bowl ring.Trailing the New England Patriots 28-24 with less than 30 seconds remaining, Seattle had the ball in hand after Lynch had stormed to within a yard of the end zone during the previous play. All signs indicated they would hand him the ball again for him to deliver the winning score. But it wasnt to be.Seattle called a slant pass which was intercepted by Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler ensuring New England would preserve their lead to the final whistle. A stunned Pete Carroll, the Seahawks head coach, explained afterwards he tried to catch the Patriots unaware because they arranged themselves primarily to block Lynch. One of the most bizarre plays in Super Bowl history deprived the most powerful runner in the NFL of the chance to score a potentially match-winning touchdown. One last touchdown Lynch returned to the Seahawks with a touchdown against the Panthers Injury ruined Lynchs final NFL season and limited him to just seven starts as he battled hamstring and abdominal issues. The mileage was beginning to show.He still had time for one last touchdown against the Carolina Panthers but, with his 30th birthday creeping up on him, Lynch called time on his career in typically cryptic fashion. Waiting until the fourth quarter of Super Bowl 50, he tweeted a picture of his cleats hung up from a telephone line which prompted tributes from the Seahawks and his former team-mates.
