Georgia Elwiss blogs from Sri Lanka, celebrating England Womens qualification for the 2017 Womens World Cup, plus talks tuk tuks, stingrays, and dinner with the Wyatts...Weve done it!Weve qualified for next summers ICC Womens World Cup on home soil! Coming into this series in Sri Lanka, we knew we needed just one win from the three ICC Womens Championship matches to qualify, and we did it in style at the first opportunity in the second ODI. Our opening of the series didnt count as a Championship match, but it was still a very special occasion for Beth Langston, as she made her much-anticipated ODI debut. Beth Langston (centre) celebrates her first wicket on her ODI debut It was a touching moment when Katherine Brunt was asked to do the cap presentation. As one of Beths closest friends - and landlord - Katherine delivered a few poignant words in front of the group as she handed over the shiny new match cap - welcome to the gang, No 125!Watching Beth take her first ODI wicket during that match was also an exciting moment for everyone, although you could have been fooled by her celebration… the little skip and clap needs a bit of work, Langers! To celebrate Beths debut and our opening win of the tour, we headed to the Galle Face Hotel, renowned for its fantastic view of the beautiful coastal sunset. Unfortunately though, within about 20 minutes of us arriving, the sky clouded over. The views from Sri Lanka are spectacular Words were exchanged between Robbo (Mark Robinson) and Ali Maiden (our assistant coach), who suggested the excursion - needless to say, they quickly passed blame back and forth. Sri Lanka is such a beautiful country and we have been so lucky to be able to experience the wonderful culture here during the couple of rest days that we have had. We have quickly made firm friends with a couple of our favourite tuk tuk drivers, who kindly wait for us outside the hotel to take us out and about across Colombo. The fish restaurants in particular over here are unbelievable and we walked into one called Lagoon, only to see a huge stingray available for cooking! Tammy Beaumont (left) and Danielle Hazell pose with dinner! Danni Wyatt and I also visited an amazing souvenir shop so Danni could buy a postcard to send her mum. The funny thing is though, Mrs Wyatt is actually out here too and Danni just forgot.Im not sure who shes going to be sending that to now - answers on a postcard! My parents have also made the journey out here to support us, and it was lovely to have dinner with the Wyatt family, who I have known for 16 years. Elwiss (left) has dinner with the Wyatt family Growing up at Staffordshire and now playing for England together is something that will always be special for both of our families. On now to our third ODI against Sri Lanka, on Tuesday, and we will be looking to make it three wins from three! Also See:Womens cricket homeWomens World CupSportswomenCricket fixtures/resultsAir Max 97 Off White Sale . Maybe thats just my personality when I can reflect on it, go back through my career. This has really done a lot for me integrating into the team and the organization. ... Its memorable, certainly. Its ironic this is the last one.Gordon finished sixth in the Goodys Fast Relief 500 in his 805th and likely/possibly/maybe final Sprint Cup race. The four-time Sprint Cup champion does not have any additional races scheduled in a substitute role for Dale Earnhardt Jr.With 93 career wins, the 45-year-old Gordon finished his eight-race substitute schedule with his best result in the Hendrick Motorsports No. 88 car.Its really tough to be out of the car and jump back in and race with these guys without having the week?to?week input into the car, said team owner Rick Hendrick, who called Gordon to share substitute driver duties when Earnhardt suffered a concussion. Dont you guys agree, hes too young to retire? Hes too good. Maybe well vote him back in. Maybe we can come up with a new deal.Hes the one that said I could call him if I needed him.Hendrick was joking about how he would want Gordon, an equity owner in Hendrick Motorsports, to sign a new deal. Hendrick has its four drivers for next year with Earnhardt saying Sunday he fuully expects to return.dddddddddddd.Gordon had no plans to slide behind the wheel in Cup this season as he spent the first half of the year in the Fox broadcast booth. The transition wasnt easy, but he appeared comfortable at Martinsville, where he has nine career victories.Driving between fourth and seventh for the final 300 laps, Gordon got to be part of a 29-lap caution period as NASCAR tried to sort out a scoring issue. The problem stemmed when cars were running out of fuel after a caution interrupted green-flag pit stops.A few weeks earlier at Dover, Gordon asked during the drivers meeting about a similar situation on how NASCAR would determine lead-lap cars. Gordon ended up being the lucky dog, restarting fifth and eventually appearing to be at least near the right spot on the grid.Theyve got to fix that scoring situation, Gordon said. I called them out on it at Dover. ... Obviously they dont have it right.I dont think it affected us a lot, but it wasnt right the way they scored it and then we went green. And then we had to run there for 30 laps. That wasnt good.Gordon fell back to seventh after the restart and then picked up one more spot before the finish.I would rather have won, Gordon said. I felt like we had a fourth- or fifth-place car the run before that [set of pit stops]. I always want to get the most out of it and I was a little disappointed we didnt take off at the end. ... I was proud of this team, proud of my performance -- best finish Ive had in this car.All in all, it was a great way to end our run here this year in the 88 car. I think this will be the last one. Well see. ' ' '
